Idaho Fish and Game will be setting new big game seasons for deer, elk, pronghorn, black bear, wolf, and mountain lion in March, and hunters will be able to comment on season proposals Feb. 8–23. Big game seasons will be finalized by the Fish and Game Commission during its March 26 meeting in Boise.
Hunting | Idaho Fish and Game
To hunt in Idaho you will need: a hunting license; a tag for big game species and turkey; to take a hunter education class if born after January 1, 1975; If you’ve never purchased a hunting license in Idaho, or any other state, and you’re 8 years of age or older, you are eligible for our Hunting Passport program.

To fish in Idaho any person 14 years of age or older must have a valid fishing license. Anglers younger than 14 do not need a license, but there is a small difference between resident and nonresident youth.

Inhabiting those waters are 42 game fish species, from giant white sturgeon to wild trout, catfish to kokanee, and smallmouth bass to salmon and steelhead. Most Idaho waters have year-round fishing seasons.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is divided into seven administrative regions with offices in Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston, Nampa, Jerome, Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Salmon. In addition, a subregional office in McCall operates in conjunction with the Southwest Region office.

Fish and Game stocks over 30-million fish from its hatcheries into rivers, lowland lakes, reservoirs and mountain lakes every year. Stocked fish include fry, fingerlings, and catchable sized fish from 18 species and 16 strains.
Mandatory Hunter Report - Idaho Fish and Game
All successful moose, sheep and goat hunters must report their harvest within 10 days of the date of kill and have a big game mortality report completed at an Idaho Fish and Game Regional office or to a conservation officer.
