Tesla may soon face a significant hurdle in Canada. Chrystia Freeland, a candidate for the leadership of Canada’s Liberal Party, has proposed a 100% tariff on U.S.-made Teslas in response to former President Donald Trump’s latest trade policies, The Canadian Press reported.

For Elon Musk fans, it’s the half-trillion dollar bet. The stock market value of Tesla has surged by that much since Donald Trump’s election, and kept climbing last week even as the electric car maker reported disappointed financial results for last year.

Trudeau, who is still prime minister in a caretaker capacity until a new one is elected, has not imposed 100% tariffs on Teslas as of this writing. He did announce a 25% tariff on American electric vehicles,
