Less than 24 hours after being dubbed a hurricane, Tropical Storm Barbara has weakened and is expected to continue diminishing through Tuesday. Tropical Storm Cosme is expected to weaken through Thursday morning. Both storms are being tracked through the eastern Pacific Ocean, off the coast of southwestern Mexico, according to the NHC.

The National Hurricane Center reported that as of 10 a.m. EDT, Barbara was in the eastern Pacific Ocean approximately 155 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. The maximum sustained winds were reported to be at 75 mph,

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has nearly the whole state in a Level 2 out of 5 (slight) risk for severe weather today. A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible. The immediate coast has a Level 1 risk today and could get isolated severe storms.

Intensifying thunderstorms across the southern and eastern U.S. threatened to unleash dangerous weather conditions.

Storms by the afternoon will be most numerous along the coastal corridor, with hazards of heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. A summer-time pattern continues with daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms alongside hot and humid conditions.
