An Air Quality Alert has been issued for northern MN. This Alert starts at 6 AM Tuesday and lasts until 11 PM Wednesday.

Minnesotans are inhaling another plume of smoke from Canada this week, and an attempt to blame Canada's handling of wildfires is being met with eye-rolls north of the border. Why it matters: Experts say smoky summers are likely the new normal in Minnesota and many parts of North America unaccustomed to dealing with the haze as climate change turns the continent's forests into tinderboxes.

Fine particle levels are expected to reach the red air quality index category, a level considered unhealthy for everyone, across north central, northwest, northeast, and east central Minnesota.

As winds shift back out of the south, the Canadian wildfire smoke blanketing the metro is expected to improve throughout the day on Sunday. However, some air quality issues will still persist, especially in northern Minnesota. An air quality alert remains in effect for all of Minnesota until 9 a.m. Monday.
