Saudi Arabian boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has suggested he will try and talk Tyson Fury out of his latest retirement, but already has contingency plans for Anthony Joshua if a bout between the pair cannot be arranged.

British heavyweight Tyson Fury has retired from boxing — again — one month after losing a rematch with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

The announcement comes after Fury suffered a second defeat of his career by Oleksandr Usyk last month in Saudi Arabia.

"I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it," Fury said on Instagram

In May 2024, Usyk handed Fury his first career loss by split decision to spoil a career 34-0-1 record. Usyk won the rematch in December. By claiming a unanimous decision, Usyk retained the WBA, WBO and WBC heavyweight championships in the fight held in Saudi Arabia.

Instead, Joshua went on to knock out former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, while Wilder was stopped by Zhilei Zhang in his next bout. Joshua was also on the wrong end of a KO in 2024, however, as Daniel Dubois retained the IBF title against his fellow Briton in September.

Eddie Hearn has set a tight deadline for Tyson Fury to end his latest retirement if a highly anticipated summer clash with Anthony Joshua is to materialise. The Matchroom Boxing promoter insists Fury must return within "the next three or four weeks" for the potential blockbuster bout to proceed.
