While some of President-elect Trump's Cabinet nominees faced sharp questioning this week, Sean Duffy received a friendly welcome in his confirmation hearing to be secretary of transportation.

Duffy was introduced to the committee by bipartisan Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) and emphasized that safety is not a partisan issue.

There is nothing in Duffy’s background that suggests he would be effective at leading the Department of Transportation.

Former congressman Sean Duffy, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to head the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, navigated a smooth path through his Senate confirmation hearing on Jan.15, fielding questions on the range of issues that a DOT secretary would face, including some that deal with infrastructure.

Duffy, who formerly represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, would head the country’s department tasked with overseeing the nation’s planes, trains, highways and overall transit.
