President Donald Trump announced that his administration would tackle rising drug costs in the United States by establishing “most favored nation” pricing which would base the U.S. prices of pharmaceuticals on the lowest prices paid by other foreign nations.

The president has long complained that the United States pays more for medicines than other wealthy countries. But he offered no clear legal authority to mandate lower prices.

The president rolled out a plan that was less aggressive than his first-term effort in 2020, surprising analysts who were bracing for something tougher.

The newly arrived people are from the ethnic minority of Afrikaners, the group of whites who ruled South Africa during apartheid.

President Donald Trump told reporters Monday that he’s admitting them as refugees because of the “genocide that’s taking place.” He said that in post-apartheid South Africa, white farmers are “being killed” and he plans to address the issue with South African leadership next week.

The Trump administration granted the group refugee status due to alleged discrimination. South Africa has called the accusations "unfounded."
