The Saturday retirement of Derek Carr means the Saints, at least for now, will staged a three-man quarterback derby between 2025 second-round draft pick Tyler Shough, 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler and 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener.

Former Fresno State star quarterback Derek Carr has retired from the NFL after 11 seasons, where most of his career was spent with the Raiders. Shoulder issues flared up for Carr and surgery was discussed, but it would have put him in the six-month window before he can rehab.

Derek Carr's tenure as a New Orleans Saint was defined by the damage he took. He was an injury report mainstay in his first season, managing to start every week in 2023. He was less fortunate in 2024; his 10 games played were the fewest in a single season of his 11-year NFL career.

Carr’s previous engagement at Brave came in late January, shortly after he challenged ESPN host Max Kellerman and co-host Stephen A. Smith to a fight in a UFC Octagon. Kellerman had said on the air that Carr “didn’t look like he wanted it.”
