The New York Mets have one of the best first basemen in baseball and it will be interesting if he ends up sticking around in the longterm. This past offseason, Pete Alonso was one of the top free agents on the open market but didn't end up landing a deal he probably deserved.

The New York Mets got Pete Alonso back for a crazy-low price in 2025. The same is highly unlikely to occur in 2026. After a frustrating free agency, Alonso returned to the Mets on a two-year, $54 million contract with a player option for the second season.

Superstar sluggers Pete Alonso and Juan Soto are a combined 3-for-22 with two walks over the losing streak. The former is slashing .294/.400/.544 with nine homers and 37 RBI, but the latter is slashing just .247/.379/.437 with eight homers and 20 RBI after signing a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets in the offseason.
