Rio Ferdinand has described Liam Delap as a ‘wonderful young player’ but believes his decision to join Chelsea could be a blessing in disguise for Manchester United. United expressed interest in signing Delap from relegated Premier League side Ipswich Town, with Ruben Amorim keen to bolster his attacking options this summer.

Subject to agreement on personal terms and the requirements of the £30m release clause being met, the 22-year-old will move to Chelsea.
