The Department of Natural Resources confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu, was found in a merganser recovered in early February along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Milwaukee County.

"It is important to remember that avian influenza is still present in Wisconsin, and we are seeing it affect birds in isolated areas around the state."

Since being abandoned on October 13, graffiti has nearly covered the side of Deep Thought, the boat on Milwaukee’s Lake Michigan shore.
