President Donald Trump has appointed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Council of Governors, alongside governors from nine other states.

That nightmare came true on Thursday for the GOPers eyeing the 2026 Florida governor’s race. Trump posted to Truth Social his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of a potential run by Naples-area U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds.

While Ron DeSantis can't run for governor again in 2026, some voters might want to see another DeSantis on the ballot. But one notable Florida voter, President Donald Trump, seems to have another candidate in mind.
