Democratic Sen. John Hoffman, his wife, and House Democratic leader Melissa Hortman were injured in what the governor describes as targeted shootings.
Even as the national political discourse has grown hyperpartisan in recent years, Minnesota had kept a foothold on its own traditions.
Police first responded to a call of a shooting at Hoffman's home in Champlin at around 2 a.m. Saturday, Drew Evans, the superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said in the briefing.
Before Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman became a nationally recognized figure following her fatal shooting death alongside her husband Saturday morning — an act public officials have called an act of “political violence” — she was revered by colleagues as a dedicated public servant.
According to the website for his company Praetorian Guard Security Services, Boelter is listed as director of security patrols.
