Federal traffic safety regulators are looking into suspected problems with Elon Musk's test run of self-driving "robotaxis" in Texas after videos surfaced showing them braking suddenly or going straight through an intersection from a turning lane and driving down the wrong side of the road.

Federal regulators are probing Tesla's new robotaxis after troubling footage shows cars veering into the wrong lane and slamming on brakes for no reason.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) contacted Tesla after numerous videos posted online appear to show Tesla robotaxis violating traffic laws in South Austin, where the company is providing rides to invited customers.

The NHTSA says it's aware of videos posted online purportedly showing self-driving Tesla vehicles going awry. Since they formally launched in Austin on June 22, Tesla's self-driving robotaxis are drawing lots of attention from locals.
