A lifeguard in Asbury Park was hospitalized Tuesday after she was impaled by a beach umbrella, authorities said.

A female lifeguard was impaled so deeply with a beach umbrella at the Jersey Shore that it had to be cut into smaller pieces with a saw before she could be taken to the hospital, officials said.
