California Governor Gavin Newsom says on social media: "The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle. "Don't give them one. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully."

The Marines and the National Guard personnel deployed amid the protests in to Los Angeles will operate under the same rules of force and will not be engaging crowds, according to two U.S. officials.

President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard members to work alongside 700 Marines in responding to immigration protests in Los Angeles.
