An explosion rocked the Sarang oil field operated by HKN Energy in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region early Tuesday morning, forcing the company to suspend operations as emergency crews battled ongoing fires.
Another producer in Iraq's Kurdistan region, Gulf Keystone Petroleum, said Wednesday that it has decided as a safety precaution to temporarily shut in production, noting reports of explosions at oil fields in the vicinity of its Shaikan Field. It said its assets have not been impacted by the explosions.
