The Air India flight fell from the sky on Thursday and killed at least 270 people in Gujarat state, officials said Saturday.

Former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani was among the 242 passengers and crew on board the London-bound Air India flight AI-171 that crashed on Thursday.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh was seated in emergency row 11A when he escaped through the nearby emergency exit, according to The New York Times. Ramesh was seen stumbling to an ambulance near the crash site and telling the crowd that he came "from inside" the plane.
