DENVER ‒ School districts representing hundreds of thousands of students nationally have reported attendance drops in the wake of highly publicized ICE raids, with some classrooms seeing as many as two-thirds of students temporarily absent.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security says a judge should reject Denver Public Schools’ attempt to block immigration enforcement at schools because the district can’t show harm.

In January, the Trump administration rolled back a decades-old Department of Homeland Security memo that protected sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, courthouses, and places of worship from immigration enforcement.
