It expires on Friday at midnight, due to elevated levels of fine particulate (PM2.5), the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy said.

Air quality alert has been issued for parts of Nebraska and Iowa due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires. The alert will expire at 5 p.m. on Saturday for Nebraska and 8 a.m. on Sunday for Iowa. Areas of smoke and haze can be seen in the skies across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

The region has been under an Orange Air Quality Alert issued by the National Weather Service since Thursday. This is not the first time this year that St. Louis has been under an air alert due to wildfire smoke. In early June, the region experienced poor air quality due to the smoke.
