Southern California Edison agreed to pay $82.5 million to settle the 2020 Bobcat Fire claims without admitting fault. The settlement recovers firefighting costs and aids in Angeles National Forest restoration.

Federal officials allege that the Bobcat fire, which burned more than 114,000 acres in 2020, ignited when trees that were not properly maintained by Southern California Edison and its tree maintenance contractor came into contact with power lines.

This is not the first time the electric utility company has settled with the federal government. In 2023, SoCal Edison and two other companies paid the Forest Service $22 million to settle a lawsuit arising from damages from a 2016 wildfire that burned 32,000 acres in central California.
